Fishing in Cyprus
There are quite a few places to fish in Cyprus, both the sea and man made dam offer quite a few choices. Amateur fishing and Fishing in Dams is outlined below.
Diving is also very popular in Cyprus, with a number of diving schools having excellent reputations. The most famous wreck in Cyprus waters is the 'Zenobia' which sank in 1980 The 172m (570) wreck is a must for all divers visiting the island. The Akamas peninsula is now earmarked as a marine park and the Akrotiri Fish Reserve near Limassol is very popular. (Akrotiri is about 30 minutes from Kalavasos).

| Amateur Fishing
Spear-fishing, angling, fishing with vertical lines (long lines with up to one hundred hooks and up to three fish traps) or trolling are the permitted fishing methods. Fishing with nets and other commercial methods are not permitted. There are quite a few species of fish which can be caught: sea-breams, groupers, amber jacks, sea-perch etc.

| Fishing in Dams
There are many Dams in Cyprus. Cyprus dams are stocked with 17 species of fish. The most popular are: Trout, largemouth bass, carp, Tikeperch, Roach, etc. Sixteen dams in Cyprus provide excellent fresh-water fishing opportunities throughout the year.
If you would like to fish in the Cyprus Dams you will require a special licences. This can be purchased from the Head Office of Fisheries Department, in Nicosia or from the District Offices of Fisheries Department.
Licences are issued to persons over 12 years old and are valid for the bearer.
The fee is CYP 3,00 for each dam separately and CYP 10,00 for all dams. All licences issued for the current year. If you are interested in a group licence, this is normally valid for 14 days and the fee is CYP 1,00 per person.
Licences are valid only when the dam is declared open by the Director of the Department of Fisheries.
